Atlanta Gas Light and News/Talk 750 WSB to Honor Bernie Marcus with 2006 Shining Light Award

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 2006--Atlanta Gas Light, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based AGL Resources (NYSE: ATG), today announced that Bernie Marcus has been selected as the recipient of the 2006 Shining Light Award by Atlanta Gas Light and News/Talk 750 WSB (NYSE: CXR).

Co-founder of The Home Depot, the Atlanta-based home improvement chain, Marcus is a renowned philanthropist and generous contributor to the Atlanta community. In November of 2005, Marcus saw his long-held vision of the world's largest aquarium come to fruition with the opening of the Georgia Aquarium. To Marcus, the joy of an aquarium is that "it welcomes everyone of all ages, colors, backgrounds and financial status."

In its 42-year history, the Shining Light Award has become one of Atlanta's most cherished traditions recognizing and honoring the city's outstanding leaders.

Marcus joins an impressive listing of past honorees, including the late former Atlanta Mayor Maynard H. Jackson, former President Jimmy Carter, former Mayor and Ambassador Andrew Young, baseball legend Henry "Hank" Aaron and last year's recipient, Alana Shepherd.

Shining Light awards, eternally burning natural gas lamps, adorn many corners of Atlanta. The award is an old-time gaslight erected in a location that is meaningful to the recipient. For example, Shepherd's award is located on site at her Shepherd Spinal Center.

The Shepherd Spinal Center is yet another example of Bernie Marcus' ongoing commitment to improving the lives of others, particularly children. Marcus and his wife Billi are long-time supporters of the Center. They also are the founders of The Marcus Institute, which treats children with neurological disorders, autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, behavior disorders, and fetal alcohol syndrome. It is the only institute of its kind that enjoys a 100 percent success rate in curing children with eating disorders.
