Atlanta Gas Light Sets Record as Four-time Champion of 11th Annual National Gas RodeoAGL Resources has four of the top six teams in the competitionSeptember 27, 2005
ATLANTA – Sept. 27, 2005 – The Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) Meter Nuts outperformed and overpowered 19 other teams from natural gas utilities throughout the country on Saturday, Sept. 24, to win the 2005 National Gas Rodeo. The championship was a record fourth in a row for an AGL rodeo team.
Sponsored by the Midwest Energy Association, the 11th annual rodeo in Fairview Heights, Ill., tests skills used by utility crews every day in their jobs through an exciting series of timed relays.
AGL Resources (NYSE:ATG), parent company of AGL, sent five teams to the national competition this year, and all had outstanding results: the Chattanooga Gas Wrench Slingers took third place; the Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) Outside Force finished in fifth place; another AGL team, the Troubleshooters, was sixth; and VNG’s Chesapeake Crabbers won 12th place.
“Winning the National Gas Rodeo Championship for the fourth year in a row is an unprecedented accomplishment,” said Kevin Madden, executive vice president of Distribution Operations and External Affairs at AGL Resources. “We are extremely proud of all our teams that participated this year. Their efforts and determination to be the best at what they do influences the work ethic and performance of our frontline resulting in service improvements for our customers from New Jersey to Florida.”
The AGL Resources teams were selected during a qualifying competition held in August in Atlanta.
“I am very proud of all of our teams,” said Charlie Clement, operations supervisor at Atlanta Gas Light’s Gwinnett Service Center and vice chair of the National Gas Rodeo Committee, adding that “the Meter Nuts were more than 37 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. It was the fastest relay ever,” he noted.
